Artist Corner

Introducing ‘Artist Corner’, the Pop-up Gallery exhibiting works by Barbara Harlow.

I have always enjoyed painting ever since I was at school and promised myself that I would come back to it one day. That day was a long time in coming, what with marriage and two children and all that that entails, but eventually I found time for myself and took lessons to give myself the feel again. I was lucky enough to meet a lady who was an extremely good artist and she kindly took me under her wing and gave me one to one tuition. I learnt a great deal from her and also how to walk and look at my surroundings and absorb the feelings and atmosphere of the Fens where I grew up and still live. This has held me in good stead. A while later I met another excellent teacher who took me a step further. They both gave me great inspiration for which I will always be grateful.

I enjoy trying to create atmosphere, my favourite types of pictures are East Anglian skies and landscape. Living close to Wicken Fen has inspired me to paint there quite often and I really enjoy painting the Fen in all its moods. A keen gardener, flowers quite often feature in my paintings as well. I paint in Oils, Watercolours and Pastels.

Running an Art shop and Gallery for fourteen years, gave me a great insight into the art world. I semi retired a few years ago to concentrate more on my own art work. I exhibit a great deal locally and also belong to the Cambridge Open Studios.
